LEGISLATION

When God created (Genesis 1), He pronounced all things good. In accordance with His Creation Order. He did not created weeds but plant yielding seed, fruit seeds etc...

Genesis 1:11-12 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.” And it was so. The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good

The first commandment He gave to man was a generous one. It set forth a general principle of liberty, followed by one singular prohibition. This is reflected in the common law principle of the presumption of liberty, reflecting the Judeo-Christian roots. Due process and natural justice is also found in the creation account: Genesis 3:13

Genesis 2:15-17 The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the Lord God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.”

There were 2 trees in the garden

a) Tree of Life - the post Fall prohibition - but see Revelation 22:1-2 and Revelation 2:7

And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. (Rev 22)

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God. (Rev 2:7)

b) Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil - the prohibition

When Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree, it was as innocents encountering evil, it was mutiny against God. They became corrupt and sin became their natural tendency (where virtue previously was) and had they eaten of the tree of life and lived forever, I suppose they would have been corrupt forver.

Key thoughts

1. In the beginning, the Creation Order, which was a Moral Order

2. Sin brought about Moral Confusion. A Corruption of the Old Creation. Carnal Man.

4. The Torah was given to provide Moral Clarity - but no one could live up to it. Ergo, despair.

5. Christ came to bring about Moral Transformation through the shedding of His Blood (cancelling the debt of accumulated sin which is death) and giving of His Holy Spirit who transforms and renews us, such that we can out off the old man and put on the new: Romans 12:1-3 and Ephesians 4. A New Creation, Spiritual Man.

But God also entered into a specific Covenant with Israel via Abraham: Genesis 12. The Hebrews had divinely revealed specific revelation. But the Gentiles were not left sans moral compass; they had access to general revelation. There are things about God that can be known through Creation (Romans 1) and also, the moral law, written on our hearts: Romans 2:12-16

For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law, and as many as have sinned in the law will be judged by the law  (for not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified;  for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves,  who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) 16 in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

The Key is the Heirs of Abrahams are not just the believing Jews but Gentiles grafted into the vine:

Galatians 3

Consider Abraham: “He believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.”Understand, then, that those who believe are children of Abraham. The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham: “All nations will be blessed through you.”So those who have faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.

All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.” Clearly no one is justified before God by the law, because, “The righteous will live by faith.” The law is not based on faith; on the contrary, “The man who does these things will live by them.” Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit.
