How to Interpret the Bible and How to pray biblically - some notes

    1.      Harmoniously and Holistically, not in isolation: grander narrative - find the link between Genesis and  Revelation e.g. the Scarlet Thread, the Lamb of God, Jacob-Esau, the Enemy: humanism and heresy

    2.      Principles: The Character of God e.g. Sovereignty, Judgment, mercy - viewed holistically and not in lop-sided fashion

    3.      Pattern: interpretational constants or recurrent ideas e.g. Jacob v Esau, Spirit v Flesh; principle of first mention lays down precedent e.g. Sodom as judgment on lawless nations and cities: Genesis 18-19; Isaiah 1:7-8; Matt 10:15; Romans 9:29; Amos 4:11

§         if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly 2 Peter 2:6

§         Babylon, the jewel of kingdoms, the glory of the Babylonians' pride, will be overthrown by God like Sodom and Gomorrah. Isaiah 13:19

§         Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire. Jude 1:7

    4.      Precedent: reminding God of what He has done in the past - Psalm 83

9 Deal with them as with Midian,
    As with Sisera,
As with Jabin at the Brook Kishon,
10 Who perished at En Dor,

Who became as refuse on the earth.
11 Make their nobles like Oreb and like Zeeb,
Yes, all their princes like Zebah and Zalmunna,
12 Who said, “Let us take for ourselves
The pastures of God for a possession.”

    Psalm 19:10

For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy."

What Jesus said - is what will be done in times to come

15 And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; 18 they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” (Mark 16)

“Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. (John 14:12)
