    How Love Wins

Love always involves someone laying down his or her life, so that others may live. Love is by nature sacrificial, it involves a pouring out of life, as the Apostle Paul did

2 Tim 4:6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come.

John 12:24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies (builds up): 1 Cor 8:1 - do you act to build yourself up, or do you bend down to lift someone else up, as the Lord does?

Psalm 18:35 You give me your shield of victory, and your right hand sustains me; you stoop down to make me great.

Love gives all, and the mystery of that, is that it gains all. And Yeshua is love, and love laid down His life, for me. If you lose your life for the sake of Christ, you will find it. If you love your life, you will lose it.

Matt 10:39 Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.

Consider Pride: it is self-love. The god of self. The Book of Obadiah demonstrates God's relentless opposition to Pride which takes various manifestations:

    Pride

§         Mark of the Flesh: Obadiah 3 - dwell in clefts of rocks

§         Satanic principle at work in all flesh (the flesh): exalt itself (seek status and position in eyes of others)

    Self Sufficiency

    §         Obadiah 3, 4 - nest in the stars

§         Cf: Christ continual dependence on Father

§          (Success, career, marriage, car, friends as personal choices) - formal belief in God but without sense of any dependency on his wisdom and strength

    Violence

    Obadiah 1:10 = brother Jacob

§         Pride: self-centred and strikes out against anything that dares to challenge its supreme reign in life; unbroken ego; spoiled and cowardly spirit

    Indifference

Obadiah 1:11 - stood and watched as Jerusalem plundered

§         to understand rather than to be understood

    Gloating

    Obadiah 1:12-13

§         Don't care about anything else but ourselves

    §         Proverbs 24:17-18

    Exploitation

Obadiah 14 - cut off fugitives, delivered up survivors

    §         Took advantage of calamity

Proverbs 6:16-19 - types of pride

These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
    A proud look,
    A lying tongue,
    Hands that shed innocent blood,
A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren.

    Consider Christ: Philippians 2:5-11

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father
